$45k and up to 3 cars. What would you buy?

So, I have spent a month without a car in my new home, Calgary. I am already starting to plan my next car and realized I am not 100% sure what I want for my new car. I will have a 3-car garage when I move and my wife only ever wants one car at a time, so that leaves me two garage spots to fill and a spot on the driveway, but what with? I figure a good price limit is the cost of a premium sedan/suv… the Ford Taurus SHO is about $43k and a Highlander Hybrid Limited rings in around $47k. My choice would be a classic Porsche and Land Rover.

Classic Combo:

$13,900 1968 Land Rover Series IIA 88 (SOLD) from !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

$29,900 1979 Porsche 911 from !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Here are a couple other options I like as well.

10Cyl and no ABS?

$43,888 2003 Dodge Viper SRT-10 from !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

One car to rule them all?

$38,950 1993 Porsche Carrera 4 from !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

What do you say Oppo?

I'd go C5 and an RDX. The C5 will be 15-20k and the RDX be ~25k

I would have my 73 240Z... not sure if I should count how much I paid for it or have invested in it ;) I would then add a classic Porsche 911 and an old step side pickup (something like an old 1960 Ford or Chevy) setup to pull stuff and haul my bikes.

Bugeye/blobeye/older hawkeye STI hopefully at most 20K, NA Miata hopefully around 5K. The rest will be on mods I guess.

20k in mods to an NA and STI would make for a hell of a dream garage

Thumph Sptifire: Project car/date car/Friday car, Figure 3K for a pretty decent driver. Not fast, but dude you driving around in a Spitfire; You're awesome. No one is cooler and there is no way someone would think you are egotistical. Alfa Sprider would also work. E-type Jag could be a good choice too, but you'd have to adjust the other car accordingly. Just something Britsh or Italian. Something fun to play with that makes every drive and adventure.

Another thing awesome about this is that insurance should be low and you can probably sell the car for what you paid when/if you tire of it.

Kinja'd!!!

Then maybe a WRX, Focus ST, Mazdaspped 3, GTI. Really the second car depends on what you wife has and what use you need. But newish, hatchback, turbo make up a winning criteria. Nothing that will eat up all you money and time, but it must be fun and flexible. Some of these cars again don't kill the insurance. running more that one car you must think about that.

I think my list would look like this, although it does have a distinct lack of Miata:

'74 260z, maybe $20,000 including resto-mod parts. This would be the fun car.

'85 BMW 635CSi, no idea how much these are worth but I can find a bunch of them on CL for under $5k, so say $10,000. This would be the DD.

'98 Subaru Legacy, I paid around $3600 for mine. This would be the winter beater / hauler.

Extra money would go to keeping everything on the road, maybe new upholstery for the older cars, etc.

$45k is about £30k - I'm being slightly generous to myself there. For that money, there are various tempting possibilities.

A Citroen SM would take a hefty chunk, at at least £20k for a good one.

Kinja'd!!!

You can pick up a good CX for less than a quarter of that, though - they're bargains at the moment:

Kinja'd!!!

Then again, a C6 is the same kind of money.

Kinja'd!!!

Whichever way you look at it, there has to be a big Citroen for motorway cruising. Unless I was truly perverted and went with a Renault Avantime.

Kinja'd!!!

You can also pick up a perfectly decent (original) Lotus Elan for ten to fifteen kilopounds.

Kinja'd!!!

That leaves £10-12k for an Alfa GTV.

Her car would be a 3series diesel, I would have my old diesel ranch truck that sits outside, a black and gold porsche 930 weekend toy with a ultra high compression aluminum v8 swapped in (e85 ftw!) and a 2013 triumph thruxton that I would daily. And in the rest of the space... Cnc Machine shop! I'm going broke just thinking about it.

I am already living this sort of.
33x24 one small bay door and an over sized one.
99 XJ lifted & goodies
84 VW Gti black
01 Yamaha R1
And a few half finished projects & some junk.
Also 84 VW Gti silver but stored at rental property.

I lack time & organization. And only thing that runs in garage is the lawn mower.

My DD metro & wife's equinox park outside.

All in good shape, with reasonable miles. I'd have a fun manual performance car, a timelessly-styled bigass luxury sedan, and a solid 4x4 truck for hauling and snow. And still come in under budget.

One down, two to go. Although theres already a second Seven in my garage ATM... and the only reason I select the 400 is because I have access to one, and some buddies and I have been batting that idea around for a while.

This.

I drove one in the snow on the summer slicks, but it really needs some snow tires. Other than that, perfect DD.

This ls1 rx7 is 25k and makes about 400hp at the wheels.

The remaining 20k would fetch me a used brz hopefully.

I've been dding a 350z as my only car for the past 7 years. Having tiny back seats would be a big step up In practicality.

3 car garage will get turned into a two car garage with a lift (this is only assuming I don't have my own shop/garage with a lift). Car one is the current muscle car project (there will be plenty), and car two is the daily driver: an LS3 swapped '68 Camaro.

Just outruns your high expectations.

Telepathic.

You sneeze, so does it. You only twitch a nose-width though. Seriously, fantastic piece of engineering.

as to handling like god...I prefer not to deal in hypotheticals.

That being said, it outdoes all those guys.

Nice choice on the E90 M3. Those are a perfect one car. RS4 would substitute nicely if you live in an area with bad weather. And something about your two car style makes sense...
